The numerous attractions which have
made Florence the enticing city it is are all within walking distance
of the hotel. Brunelleschi's breath-taking dome
is not to be overlooked - crowning the famous Florentine cathedral,
Il Duomo, is larger than the Capitol building in
Washington, the Pantheon in Rome, and even St.Peters in the Vatican
City - and as it's only a 5 minute walk westward from the hotel
we can assure that you won't miss it. Click on the Interactive
Map of Florence above for a better view of the hotel's
location and surrounding area. A satellite image version is also
available.
Piazza della Signoria
is an L-shaped square facing the Palazzo Vecchio.
It was the focal point of the Florentine Republic and still conserves
its reputation as the political hub of the city. The grandiose Palazzo
Vecchio, like the Hotel Mona Lisa, is a 14th century palace and
regarded as among the most impressive Italian town halls. Its preeminent
crenellated tower distinguishes it from the neighbouring renaissance
palaces. A multitude of outstanding statues can be found in the
square. To be seen by the work of Giambologna is
a copy of David by Michelangelo (the original can
be found at the Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts) and The
Fountain of Neptune by Bartolomeo Ammannati.
To the south of the Hotel
Monna Lisa, again a 5 minute stroll, passing Piazza
San Pier Maggiore and turning right along Via M.Palmieri
you will reach the Franciscan Basilica di Santa Croce.
The tomb of Michelangelo, designed by Vasari,
can be found within the church along its southern wall. Here you
can also find cenotaphs and monuments dedicated to Dante and Machiavelli
and not to mention a bas-relief by Donatello.
Further south from the Basilica
di Santa Croce is the famous River Arno which meanders
towards the 14th century Ponte Vecchio. The only
bridge which survives to this day and studded with jeweler merchants.
Florence shops offer a wide variety of goods with its boutiques,
goldsmiths, designer outlets and open-air market, all of which are
on the door step of the Hotel Mona Lisa.
Located in Via Borgo Pinti, 27, around 500 meters and a 5 minute stroll from the Piazza del Duomo, The Mona Lisa is ideally placed to amble the captivating lanes of Florence. The Hotel Mona Lisa's centrality and the compact size of Florence allow guests to reach the plethora of sights in a few minutes.
The Piazza del Duomo can be found walking south from the Hotel on Via Borgo Pinti. Turn right west bound onto Via dell'Oriuolo and a short walk leads directly to the famous square. This is central Florence and most sights can be found in this area.

How to reach Florence:
Two airports serve Florence: Amerigo Vespucci 5km north-west of the city centre and Galileo Galilei near Pisa.
The number 62 bus runs from the airport Amerigo Vespucci to Stazione di Santa Maria Novella and takes around 15 minutes. The quicker SITA shuttle bus connects the airport Amerigo Vespucci to the SITA bus station just to the west of Piazza della Stazione.
Regular trains part from Galileo Galilei airport to Stazione de Sant Maria Novella. This journey takes about one hour.
The A1 motorway is the best way of arriving in Florence by car. It connects with Bologna and Milan in the north and Rome and Naples in the south. If travelling from the North, exit at Firenze Nord. If travelling from the south, exit at Firenze Sud.
How to reach us:
By car, after leaving the A1, simply follow the bull's-eye "Centro" signs or "Viali di Circonvallazione". Continue until you reach a tree lined road which leads onto Piazza Donatello and recognisable by the cemetery situated at its centre ("Cimitero degli Inglesi"). At the second set of traffic lights on the right, turn right onto Via Vittorio Alfieri. Once on Via Vittorio Alfieri take the first right turn into Via Giusti. Then turn left into Borgo Pini. Then take Via Laura, the first street on the right. Finally, take the first left into Via della Pergola and the hotel is the 4th opening on the left. As a visual reference, look out for the Theatre Pergola, a pink building next to the hotel.
By foot, from Stazione di Santa Maria Novella head towards Piazza dell Unità and follow Via de Panzaniround onto Viade' Cerretani. Following this street will lead you onto Piazza del Duomo. Behind Il Duomo and continuing parallel to Via de' Cerretani is Via dell'Oriuolo. Take Via dell'Oriuolo walking east away from Il Duomo. The second left turn is Via Borgo Pinti. Alternatively, the hotel is a 1 km taxi ride from the train station.
